The rocky road to Division 2

Southern Football League and Victorian Amateur Football Association

DOVETON Eagles welcome to Southern’s Division 2 competition maintained its rocky course with a 71-point belting by Oakleigh District.
The Eagles were pounded by Oakleigh District, with the 9.8 (62) to 20.13 (133) result potentially restricted by the inclement weather.
It could have been worse for the Eagles, who were served well by Matt Fristad, Corrie Wilson, Enayte Samadi and their ever-reliable coach/ruckman Clint ‘Bull’ Wilson.
The Eagles slip to eighth and face Skye at home on Saturday to hopefully rebound up the ladder.
SFL DIVISION 3
A NAILBITER in Division 3 had Endeavour Hills fall a point short against Sandown despite a second half comeback. Shane Peake drilled four to bring the Falcons back from the brink while Bryon Hoe, Ben Swift and Rob Cooper excelled in the tough conditions.
Hallam similarly fought out a narrow loss, downed 6.10 (46) to Dandenong’s 6.14 (50). Andrew Daly had a pair while Stefan Cosas and Daniel Maskiell were best afield.
VAFA
ST FRANCIS XAVIER failed to fight off Swinburne University with the X-Men downed 7.5 (47) to Swinburne’s 13.8 (86). Right in the match until half-time, the X-Men laid down their arms afterwards as it kicked one-goal-three to Swinburne’s seven goals after the main break. Trevor Finck bagged two goals while Joel Lenders, Chris Hughes and Chris Power were the cream of the St Francis Xavier crop. The X-Men face South Mornington on Saturday away.
