Win-streak ends

By JARROD POTTER

THE streak is over.
Casey Cavaliers win-streak came to an end at the hands of Coburg to the whopping tune of a 68-94 shellacking.
Outside of an up-beat second term, where the Cavaliers put 25 on the board and rallied together, the rest of the Casey effort was lacklustre as the Giants strode away to the 28-point win.
Offensive initiative came from import Matt Pebole (21 points, six rebounds, five assists), Dean Johnson (nine points, 14 rebounds) led from the front as usual at both ends under the hoop and Ash Szalek (16 points) had his shots fall all night.
Casey drops to second on the Big V Division 2 men’s basketball ladder – behind the vastly improved Shepparton Gators – and host Western Port on Saturday night before travelling to face Mornington on Sunday.
Casey’s women fared better with a win on Sunday against Coburg 84-59 after falling to the Melbourne University Black Angels 51-63 on Saturday.
Sharing the points and stats around, in their usual manner, the Cavaliers women on Sunday were led by Jess Szalek (16 points, six rebounds), Alex Keates (six points, 13 rebounds) and off only 14 minutes a near double-double for Natalie Dowdy (11 points, seven rebounds). Casey faces Chelsea on Saturday night and Mornington on Sunday. The Casey Cavaliers will host a triple-header on Saturday night to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research in conjunction with the Breast Care Network Australia (BCNA). Fund-rasing, raffles and prizes on offer for the pinkest among the crowd – make sure to don your pink colours and support the “Ballin’ For Breast Cancer” triple-header, which starts at 4.30pm at Cranbourne Basketball Stadium.
