Skye Bombers wreak havoc

By JARROD POTTER

Southern Football League and Victorian Amateur Football Association

LOSING in a nail-biter, the fast finishing Doveton Eagles fell by five points to the Skye Bombers.
Skye built up a handy nest-egg to lead by 23 point going into the final term on the back of six goals from Luke McGuinness.
Enter the comeback – the Eagles rose to kick four goals and finish within a goal of the Bombers as Peter Dye (4 goals) snared a small bag while the supreme efforts of Darryl Thomas, Clint and Corrie Wilson and Travis Graeske brought them close.
Doveton Eagles fall to ninth on the Division 2 ladder and desperately need a win when they face Highett away on Saturday.
SFL – DIVISION 3
HALLAM claimed its first points in 2014 with a 27-point win over Ashwood. Matt Neve stole the show with three crucial goals while Stephen Richards-Gill and Bryce Neve excelled in the detritus.
Endeavour Hills was given its first shellacking of the season as Carrum Patterson Lakes issued a 135-point warning to everyone else in Division 3. The Lions kicked away from a competitive Falcons outfit in the second term, after Endeavour Hills toiled to keep things close in the first. Chaos ensued following the main break as the Lions roared into life and kicked 18-goals-to-two. On a lacklustre day, Nathan Kerkvliet (2 goals) and Shane Peake (2) were the main scorers for the Falcons while Nick Stanley, Byron Hoe and Ryan Imeson were best field.
Hallam and Endeavour Hills are home this week to Lyndale and Endeavour Hills respectively with the Hawks playing under lights on Friday night.
VAFA – DIVISION 3
ST FRANCIS Xavier left no scrap of South Mornington unscathed in an 84-point thumping.
Easing away gradually, the X-Men did what it took to put a few goals on the Tigers each quarter to kick away to 18.15 (123) to 5.9 (39).
Peter Tucker (4 goals), Brent Sheers (3) and Justin Butterfield (2) led the charge up forward while the best of the X-Men were Sam and Adam Burns, Mr Consistent Joel Lenders and Lucas Day.
The win pumps the X-Men up into the top four of the Division 3 ladder before its battle-for-fourth clash with Eley Park Sharks at home on Saturday.
