SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Division 2 – round 6
HAMPTON returned to bay side without the points as Doveton Eagles defended their home nest. The Eagles held on for a 9.9 (63) to 5.12 (42) win over the visiting Hammers with the best swooping attack coming in a productive first term. Peter Dye slotted three goals while Brett Hidgcock, Cameron Van-Nes and Mark Mott were best afield as they drove through the midfield to great effect. The win brings Doveton Eagles back within a match of third place and hope to improve on ninth with a win over Springvale Districts on Saturday at Newcomen Road.
DIVISION 3
Edged out despite a rousing comeback, Endeavour Hills fell 10.10 (70) to Lyndale 10.14 (74). The Falcons stormed back into the match in the final term but couldn’t find the go ahead goal as the Pumas held on. Jake Abela, Adrian Kartner and Ben Graham slotted two each.
Hallam was knocked off 11.2 (68) by Black Rock 14.14 (98). Accuracy kept the Hawks alive as the Bombers failed to hit their target. Raymond Sibly kicked four goals and midfielder Matt Neve had three of his own.

Division 3 – round 7
IT WAS a dog day at home for the X-Men. They’ll wish this weekend would be resigned to the past, not the future past, after a 24-point defeat at the hands of La Trobe University. Closely fought til the final term, La Trobe exploded with six goals to tear away with the win, led by a seven-goal haul from Jack McMeel. St Francis Xavier slips to sixth on the ladder and faces Northern Blues on Saturday away.
