SATURDAY was one to forget for Doveton Eagles as it fell to lowly Moorabbin by 11 points.
With a chance to go level with the contenders for the final spot in Division 2 final-five, the Eagles failed to swoop on a golden opportunity to knock off the 49.48 per cent Kangaroos who have one hand on the wooden spoon.
After a quarter-time lead was conceded to the home side, Doveton Eagles was left to chase the rest of the afternoon as the Kangaroos lifted for the first time this season.
The Eagles drew the margin back to four points at the final change, but wayward kicking proved fatal as 17 behinds flew through for the visitors.
Brad Painter dabbed three goals while Peter Dye had a pair of his own as Nathan Graeske, Keith Dobson and SFL Division 3 best-and-fairest Mark Mott impressed.
It was Moorabbin’s first win of the season and leaves Doveton Eagles a game outside of finals contention in Division 2, as well as a crucial 30 percentage points.
Doveton will host fifth placed Oakleigh District on Saturday.

It was a day to relegate to the annuls of history for all City of Casey SFL teams as Hallam and Endeavour Hills copped their whacks against Mount Waverley and Black Rock respectively.
The Falcons fought their way back into the clash with the Jets, but could not break down a 24-point final margin. Allan McPherson jagged four goals while Aaron Brooks, Byron Hoe and Andrew Mitchell were in the best.
Hallam was belted by 116 against the top-of-the-ladder Mountain Lions. Bryce Neve, Chris Molnar and Linden Fredericks were the best on a brutal day for the Hawks.

Another grand final rematch against Richmond Centrals, but this time St Francis Xavier was forced into the position of runner-up.
The Centrals could have made it much worse with better accuracy, taking the 11.18 (84) to 5.9 (39) win. Jake Abel snared two goals for the X-Men while Sam Burns, Justin Butterfield and Dimi Dimakopoulos were best afield. Former local ruckman Dane Roy tapped his way to best on ground for the Centrals.
