Heart of the Eagle beats

By JARROD POTTER

Victorian Woman’s Football League

THE dream remains alive for Cranbourne VWFL to make finals following a 20-point win over Darebin.
Despite only having one on the bench, the Eagles flew through the second half to seize its fifth win of the season and keep the finals chance from going dormant.
A four-goal second term – led by forward Kirsten Mcleod (3 goals) – allowed Cranbourne to fight back into the clash and never gave back the lead despite the best efforts of the Falcons in the third term.
The return of captain Danielle Hardiman brought some desperately needed height to the Eagles’ side and helped chop out the ruck duties with Sammy Franklin unable to play.
Also starring in the come-back victory were half-back/midfielder Lauren Hutchison, Emily Wallace and Nartasha Dow.
Moving up to fifth and bringing the margin to the top four back to a solitary match, the task ahead doesn’t get easier as Cranbourne hosts second place Melbourne Uni on Sunday from 2pm at Casey Fields.
In lower-grade results, Hallam smashed Jacana by 47 points as Pippa Attard continued her stellar year with a pair of goals and a best on ground effort. Sarah Punton (2 goals) and Mary Rivera also excelled.
Cranbourne was knocked off by Whitehorse as the visiting Eagles left their run too late. Whitehorse left the door open with a shocking 4.11 conversion rate while Cranbourne’s 4.1 was a lot more efficient. Pam Rogers, Kate Crowther and Nicole Sheridan were best on ground.
