Evy rises to the challenge

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THERE’S a special new face at Eumemmering Early Learning Centre.
Under the new national early childhood education framework, all early learning centres are mandated to offer a kindergarten element and each local centre is consequently bringing in kindergarten teachers.
Mission Australia’s Eumemmering Early Learning Centre has now welcomed new kindergarten teacher Evy Moon who has previously worked in kindergartens across South-East Asia and Victoria for more than a decade.
“It’s the diversity at Eumemmering that I find so rewarding,” Evy said.
“I haven’t experienced anything quite like it anywhere else I have worked.
“Many of the children have different cultural backgrounds and speak different languages, which is, of course, a challenge, but a highly enjoyable one and one that keeps me motivated.
“Most importantly, the children are so keen to learn and be involved regardless, and they learn and grow from each other – and that is what I find to be so satisfying, watching them learn and grow together.”
Eumemmering Early Learning Centre manager Julia Foldes said Evy’s arrival, and the new kindergarten access, had been welcomed by parents.
“The children and their parents are very fond of Evy, and of the kindergarten program.
“It makes a very big difference for the children to take that next step of education in a familiar, comfortable environment,” Julia said.
“Evy has built an excellent rapport with the children’s families, which is really important, and she also speaks multiple languages herself, which makes a big difference.”
The National Quality Framework (NQF) is the result of an agreement between all state governments to provide better educational and developmental outcomes for children using education and care services.
