HALLAM Senior College was finally bested in its campaign to become interstate rugby league champions.
Although the fairytale did not run its course for Hallam Senior College’s rugby league team, its impact will be felt in New South Wales rugby league circles for quite some time yet.
As the first ever Victorian representatives in the opens competition at the 2014 CRL Country Cup and Small Schools competitions, Hallam put up a gallant fight against New South Wales school MacKillop Catholic College.
The start of the game, which was also a semi-final of the GIO Schoolboy Trophy competition, was dominated by Hallam as the Victorians took a 10-0 lead within the first 10 minutes.
MacKillop Catholic College had enough in the tank to overrun the Victorian visitors, though, as it brushed past Hallam to claim the 28-16 win.
Tries for Hallam came from James Brooks, Tokorima Metua and Angelo Leaupepe.
