THE City of Casey has quashed reports that council’s regular garbage collection will be affected after Cleanaway (Transpacific) voluntarily grounded its fleet amid safety concerns this week.
However, the company is the council’s hard waste collection contractor, so collections for that service will be a day behind.
The council has encouraged people to put their green and regular waste out for collection as usual.
The company decided to ground its entire fleet nationally in response to a fatal accident on Monday in Glen Osmond, South Australia, involving one of their trucks.
Transpacific chief executive Robert Boucher announced this morning that it has commenced the gradual resumption of waste management services across Australia and will be fully operational over the next week, following discussions with the regulator.
“We have made a strong commitment to all our employees, customers, communities, and shareholders that we will operate our fleet safely and to the standards which we expect of ourselves,” he said.
“I would like to thank all our customers for their understanding and the positive way they responded when we took the decision to ground the entire fleet on Tuesday. We will work tirelessly to clear the backlog.”
