CASEY’S growing Indian community can now get behind a new community centre after it was officially upgraded last month.
The Nathdwara Education and Cultural Centre in Hallam has undergone a redevelopment following a $180,000 funding boost through the State Government’s Cultural Precincts and Community Infrastructure Fund.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich officially opened the upgraded centre last month.
“The Nathdwara Education and Cultural Centre has supported the local Indian community for more than a decade,” Mrs Peulich said.
“I am proud the Napthine Government has been able to support the revitalisation of this community centre, which will give our Indian community in south-east Melbourne a welcoming place to socialise and actively participate in community life.
“The redevelopment will deliver a new commercial kitchen and an extended community hall.
“In addition, the redevelopment will ensure the building is safe and accessible for the entire community to enjoy.”
Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship Matthew Guy said the Cultural Precincts and Community Infrastructure Fund helped improve the vitality and safety of community facilities.
“The Victorian Government is committed to supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities through our four year $12 million Cultural Precincts and Community Infrastructure Fund,” Mr Guy said.
“The fund supports the creation of community hubs that not only deliver vital services, but provide opportunities for everyone to actively participate in community life.”
