Boost for veterans

By BRIDGET COOK

CASEY Regional Veterans Welfare Centre received a funding boost last month to ensure it can continue to support veterans, war widows and widowers.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne visited chairman Peter Godfrey and secretary John Hopkins to announce that the centre had received $3191 in funding from the Federal Government under the Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) program.
The BEST program, administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, provides support and resources for pension and welfare work to assist veterans, war widows and widowers.
Mr Byrne said BEST grants were an important part of the government’s commitment to support ex-service organisation pensions officers, welfare officers and advocates.
He said the funding was vital to the provision of support to veterans seeking compensation and their families.
“Local organisations like the Casey Regional Veterans Welfare Centre carry out wonderful work in the local community and it is fantastic to reward the organisation with extra funds to support their vital programs for local veterans,” he said.
