Film industry’s opening scene

A MOVIE screening in Narre Warren will help the world’s smallest film industry to grow.
Casey-based organisation Friends of Ermera formed in 2002 to support the people of the Ermera District of Timor Leste.
It’s organised a screening of Beatriz’s War – the first film that Timor’s first film company Dili Film Works has produced.
Men and women who fought in the armed resistance during Indonesia’s 24-year occupation made the film guerrilla-style.
It’s an adaption of the 16th century French Martin Guerre story, set in Portuguese Timor during the occupation.
Beatriz’s young husband disappears during a brutal massacre, and his return 16 years later makes her question whether he’s an imposter.
The stranger presents a metaphor for the unresolved struggles and passions that challenge a new nation’s independence.
All funds raised on the night will go to Dili Film Works to allow them to create additional films.
Beatriz’s War will screen at the Casey Council Chambers, Magid Drive, Narre Warren, at 7pm on Friday 19 September.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 concession and $5 for children.
The event includes a question and answer session with the film makers.
Call Jan Trezise on 0438 393 846 or 5944 4676 to book or for more information.
