Marked police presence at finale

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

NARRE Warren police are warning the community that there will be an increased police presence at this weekend’s Casey Cardinia football league grand-final.
The warning comes after an alleged brawl which is understood to have erupted after last Saturday’s preliminary final between Narre Warren and Cranbourne at Holm Park Reserve.
Senior Constable Laura Carter said there would be zero tolerance for anti-social and drunken behaviour at this Saturday’s grand-final at Berwick.
“Police will be present and will target liquor licencing, intoxicated persons and anti-social behaviour,” she said.
“Those intoxicated or drinking while underage will be evicted from the ground and may be arrested.
“Any person found bringing their own alcohol to the ground will be denied entry or evicted. The same sort of behaviour as witnessed on Saturday will not be tolerated.”
It’s believed there will be both uniform and plain-clothed police officers on duty during the game.
At last Saturday’s game, a series of altercations is understood to have followed an incident in which a Beaconsfield supporter taunted a Narre Warren player from the balcony of the clubrooms.
A Casey Cardinia Football League spokesperson said the matter was under investigation.
