Award to shine positive light

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to nominate a deserving person or organisation which goes above and beyond for their local community for the 2015 Casey Australia Day Awards.
The City of Casey has urged members of the community to submit their nominations for the five award categories which are open to individuals and two categories that are open to groups and organisations.
Categories include Casey Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Non-resident of the Year.
The other two categories are Casey Community Event/Activity of the Year Award and the Casey Community Fundraising Event/Activity of the Year Award.
City of Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett said the community awards recognised and celebrated people, events and activities that make Casey a great place to live, work and raise a family.
“We are fortunate to live in a city like Casey where people go above and beyond every day, generously dedicating their time to improving the lives of others,” he said.
“The Casey Australia Day Awards are an excellent way to recognise and applaud the work of these people, and to shine a light on the positive work that is carried out every day by so many across our municipality.
“Through their achievements in either a professional or volunteer capacity, these remarkable individuals and local groups have strengthened our community spirit.
“I encourage people to nominate individuals and groups for these awards which provide a wonderful opportunity for council and the community to acknowledge people who make a valuable contribution to the local area.”
Nominations close on Monday 27 October at 4pm.
Nominations for community events/activities held in 2014 close on Monday 5 January.
All eligible nominees will be acknowledged by the council at a function on Australia Day.
To nominate visit the council’s website at www.casey.vic.gov.au/caseyaustraliadayawards or contact City of Casey Customer Service on 9705 5200.
