AN ENVIRONMENTALLY friendly accounting firm was announced as the 2014 Casey-Cardinia Business of the Year last night.
Highview Accounting Services took out the number one prize and was also an award recipient in the business and professional services category, and the environment sustainability category.
Partner Silvio Marinelli, who said he is “better with numbers than with words”, was overwhelmed by the time his team took to the stage to collect the company’s third award.
“I am good with numbers, we won three awards, so that’s good,” he said.
The accountant, who recently returned from the Kokoda Trail, compared the abilities it takes to tackle the trek with what it takes to run a business.
He described it as “very humbling” to receive the most esteemed award in the Casey-Cardinia business sector.
Highview Accounting Services now has three offices, with a head office in Cranbourne.
This was the first year the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council had combined for the business awards and both mayors said they were thrilled to see its success.
The awards night, which was held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, played host to hundreds of guests, including the Governor of Victoria, Alex Chernov.
Mr Chernov congratulated all of the business men and women in the room, as well as both shires for a fantastic night of recognition.
“It is a great pleasure for me to recognise the achievements,” he said.
Mr Chernov had everyone on the edge of their seats as he began to read out the 2014 Business of the Year, but paused to thank the judges.
Mr Chernov spent the day in Cardinia shire, where he attended D’Angelos for lunch, ahead of a trip to China today.
