ART connoisseurs had to wander no further than Hallam last month.
Visitors to Hallam Primary on 17 September were treated to the school’s 2014 art festival, the bi-annual event in which students are encouraged to select their favourite art pieces from that year’s class and enter them to be displayed.
Arts Committee Convenor Amanda Conder said one of the school’s buildings was transformed into an art gallery for the evening.
“Each child in the school enthusiastically created a minimum of two pieces of art for the Art Fest,” she said.
“For the first time, students worked co-operatively and contributed to a class canvas that was included in a silent auction.”
The silent auction saw many excited parents bursting with eagerness to purchase different pieces of artwork made by the students.
More than 300 guests attended the evening, which allowed for students to enter in a range of categories including sculptures, drawing, textiles, mixed media, collage and painting.
Prizes were awarded for first, second and third nominees, while the winners received ribbons and certificates.
Local artist Christian Bulos also volunteered his time to help teach the students sketching techniques during the festival.
Hallam Primary principal Julie Macfarlane commended the students for their high standard of work, and for highlighting the benefits of the school’s visual arts program.
“It is a wonderful way to promote visual arts and involve the whole school and wider community in the life and programs at Hallam Primary School,” she said.
