Aerobics medal detectors

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

FOUNTAIN Gate Secondary appears as adept at aerobics as they are at future problem solving.
This month the two of the school’s aerobics teams – Ascension and Lil Rockers – won medals at the School Aerobics Spring Challenge Event held in Adelaide last month.
Assistant Principal Jodie Doble, who accompanied the team interstate, said the teams won a gold and silver respectively.
“The team were asked if they would like to compete at the South Australia Spring Challenge and as a school we decided to enter our whole senior squad which entails two separate teams of girls,” she said.
“Vicki, the college principal, and I, the college assistant principal, agreed to drive the squad to South Australia for the 10-hour journey to keep costs down for our families and enable both the teams to compete.
“We are extremely proud of our teams, their dedication and hard work and this opportunity presented a chance for them to shine in South Australia and celebrate the whole year of their aerobic work.
“Winning the gold and silver medal was an outstanding achievement.”
Ms Doble said both teams had only been practising their routines for just over a month, training three times a week at 7.30am before school.
She said the teams also moved up into a new division for the Adelaide competition.
“As a coach all I wanted for them was to enjoy the experience as a team, and walk off the stage proud no matter what the judging outcome,” Ms Doble said.
“It brought both Vicki and I to our feet. Standing in a crowd of South Australian supporters only meant we had to cheer even louder.”
And not even the sky seems the limit for Ascension and Lil Rockers.
“From here we will be attending the Star a Leader Sportstar awards evening held at a Etihad stadium next week,” Ms Doble said.
“Being our first time ever to be nominated we will all be holding our breath.
“No matter what the outcome it has been a tremendous journey and hugely successful year for the squad, and our four tireless coaches, without whom the teams would not have been so successful.”
