THE Berwick City Cougars are now just a win out of top spot on the Victorian Summer League Baseball Division 2 ladder thanks to an impressive 8-1 thumping away against the struggling St Kilda on the weekend.
Doubles to Lachie Beasley, John O’Connor and Ryan Shane and singles each to Mark Surtees and Cain Hillier capped off a brilliant day at the plate for the Cougars, which bounced back spectacularly from a horror 11-1 loss at the hands of Sunshine the week before. Berwick’s reserves also recorded a strong 6-0 win.
The Cougars’ seniors took on St Kilda again in a midweek fixture at the Melbourne Baseball Park last night (Wednesday) and will next travel to Werribee this Sunday to take on the home side from 3.30pm.
Berwick City has three wins from its five games so far and is in a three-way tie for fourth on the ladder, a game behind another three-way tie for first between Moorabbin, Sunshine and Werribee.
