STUDENTS from Fleetwood Primary School are giving back this Christmas.
The kids from prep to grade four are currently involved with Operation Christmas Child, an initiative run by the Samaritan’s Purse international relief organisation in which presents are donated to those children who are less fortunate.
The Fleetwood Primary School students, their families and staff have been busy collecting donations for the project for which they have been packing presents into shoeboxes.
“We’re making the kids really spoilt and really happy and we’re going to make sure they have a really good Christmas,” one student said.
Teacher Sarah Peterson said the students were inspired to help by a presentation in which they heard about children living in South East Asia who don’t have shoes to wear, or books and pencils to take to school.
“The boxes that are sent from Australia go to the region of South East Asia and Papua New Guinea,” Ms Peterson said.
“The children were encouraged to bring items that fitted the categories of something to love, something to wear, something for school, something for hygiene and something special.”
