I’ve been a resident of Hampton Park for the past 15 years and I’ve always been proud of our close-knit community and the middle class, blue collar worker status that most of us still enjoy.
But, unfortunately, in recent years I couldn’t help but notice a decline in the quality of living and an increase in the number of people hanging around the Hampton Park shopping centre car park in the evening waiting for Vinnie’s soup van to arrive.
Times are really tough and getting tougher for most of us with unemployment on the rise, especially among our youth.
We also have electricity, water, gas, petrol, food and all other necessities going up in price almost on a monthly basis and the ever increasing council rates do nothing to ease the burden.
On the other hand, we have councilor Susan Serey from the City of Casey campaigning as a Liberal candidate in the upcoming state elections while still being paid as a councilor.
Her campaign flyer shows her out and about talking to local business owners instead of the average Joe and their family, who is struggling right now and needs help.
Good to know she’s got her priorities right.
PS, Mayor Geoff Ablett and his deputy mayor are both campaigning in the upcoming state elections which raises many questions and no answers – is the campaign money from donors or rate payers? Who’s looking after us while they campaign? Has anyone asked us what we want?
Florin Bordei,
Hampton Park.
