Miners buried by score avalanche

A STOIC Berwick Miners juniors side was unable to contain traditional rivals the Croydon Rangers on Sunday, going down 32-22 in a high scoring, entertaining contest.
The scores were deadlocked at 8-8 at half time at Ranger field and the Miners led by two points, 22-20, with 5:30 remaining in the fourth quarter but the home side stormed away in the closing stages of the clash.
The result leaves Berwick currently in eighth on the Gridiron Victoria junior standings.
The Miners will host a special triple-header this Sunday at Rawling Field in Round 7 – Gridiron Victoria’s Pink Round, raising awareness of breast cancer and much-needed funds for the Cancer Council of Victoria.
The Ballarat Kestrels women will take on the Melbourne Uni Chargers from 10am, followed by the Berwick Miners Diamonds taking on Geelong from 12.45pm.
The Miners’ juniors will play the last game of the day against the junior Buccaneers from 3.30pm.
The Miners will also host a rookie development day on Sunday from 10am to 1pm on 23 November.
Anyone who wants to play gridiron can come down and learn the fundamentals.
Rawling Field is located at Sydney Pargeter Reserve, off Power Road in Endeavour Hills.
There will be a gold coin donation this Sunday in aid of the Cancer Council.
