Big win boosts confidence

NARRE WARREN BOWLS
DIVISION 2 played at home on Saturday and – smarting after their loss last week – came out breathing fire and the result was a 52-shot win against Burden Park 101/49 to stay at second spot on the ladder. A big result for the team approaching the halfway mark of the season. Karen Murray, Keith Mark, Rod Lane, Ian Brotherton 23/11. Paul O’Day, Wilma Stevenson, Eric Sydenham, Jimmy Millar21/12. Shirley Bell, Greg Cowan, Eric Luyters, Neville Bradley 27/14. Ernesto Vergara, Alan Dawson, Iain Stevenson, Jeff Parker 30/12. Division 3 played on a very fast green at Cardinia Waters. The home club was far too strong and once again the Narre bowlers did not handle the speed of the green, losing two rinks with one tied and one winning rink. It was a tough day for the team, going down by 24 shots 66/90. Peter Lister, Reg Young, Andy Kidd, John Heathcote 20/20. Ray Pigdon, Janis Dukats, Reg Johnstone, Norm Hosmer 12/28. Janice Moran, Kerry Davis, Wilma Haringsma, Geoff Miller 22/16. Carl Lapham, Ethel Van Maanen, Peter Castricum, Stan Robinson 12/26.
Division 7 played away at Dandenong Club – the team needed a win to hold their position near the top four and were successful, gaining 14 points on the “Club”. The win moves the team three spots up the ladder, now sitting in fourth spot and looking to improve that position in the next few rounds. Stan Firmin, Fred Fox, Gail Bowman, Micki Horton 19/15. Arthur Fitt, Steve Boyd, Mathew Fitt, John Green 18/19. Glen Cadman, Jim Sheahan, Jack Norman, Brian Fraser 29/12. Travis Moore, Len O’Brien, Peter Rouse, Damian Brick 20/21.
Division 8, unfortunately this team has been changed every week due to various circumstances and has not had the chance to settle down. New players have been given a chance to play and they keep on giving their best shot every week but the team went down by just three shots against Dandenong City with one rink up and one down. Helen McCarthy, Leo McGeary, Jack Castricum, Andy Tobler 21/16. Darren Moore, Zade Bulmer, Stan Bulmer, Peter Pater 14/22
Playing Tuesday, Division 1 had a home game against Dandenong Club, and although in a winning position let the game get away from them and were lucky to get away with a tie and half the points 55/55. Shirley Bell, Judy Naughton, Wilma Stevenson, Ian Brotherton 23/11. Wilma Haringsma, Eric Sydenham, Jimmy Millar 12/24. Keith Mark, Enid Gibb, Ian Stevenson, Rod Lane 20/20. With the season at the half-way mark the team must improve if they have any chance of playing finals this year.
Division 3, after losing their last two games, bounced back to winning form with a very good win at Pakenham by 37 shots 78/41 with all rinks up. The win keeps the team in second place on the ladder with six wins and two losses, and with the end of the first round to be played next week the team is in a sound position. Janice Moran, Gary Gilchrist, Nancy Pugh, John Green 34/8. Pam Uren, Carl Lapham, Micki Horton, Ray Pigdon 26/16. Arthur Fitt, Truus Henneman, Ethel Van Maanen, Andy Tobler 18/17.
