THE third time’s a charm.
That’s what John McGreal will be hoping when Casey Rotary Club holds its third annual Golf Day during the first weekend in December.
Mr McGreal, a Casey Rotarian and the Golf Day chairman, said the last two golf events had garnered a great response but he had his fingers crossed that 2014 would be the best year yet.
“Basically, the first year we did it we got off to a good start and raised $16,000 then in the second year we raised $28,000,” he said.
“So we’ve got pretty big expectations this year, we’re hoping to raise around $30,000.”
The money raised from the 5 December Golf Day – held at Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links – will go towards a range of local organisations, including Insight Education for the Blind and Vision Impaired, Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery, Riding for the Disabled and the Hampton Park Uniting Church.
“I think with the Golf Day it’s a good chance to get out in the fresh air and meet new people,” Mr McGreal said.
“You make friendships, you make business connections and start networking.
“It’s a really fun day.”
The Golf Day will also be followed by a special dinner for which cricket personality Merv Hughes and Melbourne Cup winning jockey Greg Hall are the guest speakers.
A three piece band will act as entertainment on the night, while the guests are treated to a three-course meal and a variety of auction gifts and raffle prizes.
Mr McGreal said the special dinner had been held in previous years, and next month he expected about 170 people to attend.
“We’ve had the dinner each time – it’s growing and growing,” he said.
“This year we’re heading for 170 guests.
“The whole day is, basically, two events in one, starting on the golf course and then on to dinner.”
