Cavaliers grow taller faster

By JARROD POTTER

STRETCHING to the sky in 2015, a taller, stronger Casey Cavaliers women’s outfit is out to move back up the ladder in pursuit of that elusive first championship.
The two-time BIG V Division 2 women’s runners-up, in 2012 and 2013, has stoked the fires to rocket back towards the top of the division with a pair of premier signings for their 2015 roster.
Tarryn Wilkin, who previously played at Sherbrooke, will add another layer of height to the Cavaliers’ roster and give them an expert centre to battle it out against the league’s best.
Coming out of the college system, having finished her time at Bismarck State College in North Dakota, Rebecca Magdich will add another scoring asset to the deep roster and slot in well for the Cavaliers’ rapid rotation.
A core group from this year will continue at Casey Basketball Stadium with guards Amy McFarlane, the Cavaliers’ 2013 captain, Sam Johnson running the ball while powerhouse talls Jessica Szalek and Cassie Bridge will give great support to Wilkin in the key as will return guard/forwards Natalie Dowdy and Cherise Jacotine.
Returning from a year out with a long-term knee injury, shooting forward Jade Foot is back in the line-up with Naomi Roussetty also returning from a one-year hiatus.
Development players Jessica Morgan and Cristin Daly finish a roster that will tip off their 2015 season in March.
Leaving the Cavaliers roster are Lara Parker (nee Pauline), who has retired from basketball (hopefully for the time-being that is) while Courtney Duff, Alex Keates and Erin Ludwick are also outs for the Cavaliers.
