DJ’s Market at the Oakgrove Community Centre is a family fun day out that doesn’t cost the earth.
Market manager Sharyn Holt said children can enjoy a jumping castle, face painting etc while the adults can take some time to shop, have a massage, henna, or just enjoy the great food.
“Our market runs the second Saturday of each month,” Sharyn said.
“We offer a fun family day out. Our catchphrase is ‘we’re no ordinary market’ because we offer children’s activities as well as a great shopping experience for adults.
“Our market has a variety of stalls including jewellery, soy candles, children’s clothing, hair accessories, henna tattoos, face painting, flowers, chocolates, fresh produce and much more.”
She said the markets were popular because they catered to everyone.
“So many times I have seen bored children as their parents shop – now the whole family has something to do,” Sharyn said.
“Great stalls, great food and fun activities.
“We are Narre Warren’s first and only community market. People have said they love the warm friendly feel our event offers and even though we only launched in August we already have regulars.
“Most of our friendly stall holders have specials on the day.
“DJ’s Market is named after my mother Dawn Jackson who died from a melanoma – we are helping to raise awareness through our raffles and gold coin donations.
“Our market has its own mascot, DJ the Lion. DJ usually visits and always has lots of cuddles and lollipops to give away.”
She said after having a stall at a market for the past seven years and attending markets for many years she knew she wanted DJs to be different.
The market runs second Saturday of each month from 11.30am to 4.30pm while a big Christmas bonanza will be held on 13 December.
On that day Santa will visit from between noon and 1pm and 2pm to 3pm and each child that speaks to him will receive a gift.
“Also throughout the day we will randomly be going up to our customers and giving them a free gift too and all we ask in return is a smile and a thank you,” she said.
“And our Big Xmas draw that will be drawn at 3.30pm. Tickets can be purchased up to 3pm and tickets are $2 each or three for $5.
“Our hamper is currently at just over $400 in value and with more stall holders adding to it before the draw it will get even higher in value.”
The markets are held the second Saturday of each month with the Christmas Market from 11.30am to 4.30pm and then from 10 January it will run from 10am to 3pm at the Oakgrove Community Centre 89-101 Oakgrove Drive, Narre Warren South.
