Young guns make their mark

THE future of local gridiron is in safe hands. For the past few months, it’s been plain to see for all who have gone and watched the junior Berwick Miners and Pakenham Silverbacks play.
And on Sunday, in their season finale, they gave another taste of what’s to come – with the Berwick Miners rising to new heights to defeat their local rivals.
Berwick led 8-6 after a hard-fought, physical opening but the Silverbacks then forced a turnover at the 10-yard line and ran it 90 yards home for a touchdown to take a stunning 12-8 lead.
From there, the Miners just refused to let up – boosting their offensive game to take the points with a 26-12 win.
Berwick finished seventh on the junior standings with three wins and five losses.
