BREAKFAST is the most important meal of the day.
And students from James Cook Primary School in Endeavour Hills are being reminded of this very important fact.
Every morning this term from 8.30am to 9am, staff from the school have been busy in the canteen preparing toast for many of the children.
Assistant principal Lynne McDonald said teachers discovered last term that several students were coming to school unfed.
“It came to our attention during the Life Education sessions that there were a number of students at the school who came to school without breakfast,” she said.
“Student focus groups were held to see how widespread this was. It was evident that many children and parents said their children would not eat breakfast.
“A decision was made to offer toast from our school canteen with staff volunteering to prepare the toast.”
Ms McDonald said the initiative had been a great success since it was implemented.
“Now children come to school early, knowing that they can have something to eat,” she said.
