Major track upgrade

CASEY Council last month officially began its $2 million redevelopment of the Edwin Flack Reserve athletics track.
It came as the City of Casey also opened the upgraded Clyde Recreation Reserve pavilion in December, following the completion of a $280,000 renovation.
Casey Council held a special ceremony at the end of last year to mark the turning of the first sod for the works on Edwin Flack Reserve in Berwick.
“Council is committed to ensuring there are quality sport and leisure opportunities available to Casey residents,” he said.
“These two projects are examples of how council is delivering the best sporting facilities that encourage the Casey community to be healthy and engaged in physical activity.”
The improvements at Clyde Recreation Reserve included an expanded canteen and renovated change rooms, umpires’ room and scorers’ room.
The athletics track re-development will include renovations of the javelin run-up area, the long and triple jump run-up areas, and the high jump area.
The existing drainage will also be upgraded, while the current grass track will be replaced with an all-weather synthetic rubber.
“This project will be a welcome boost to residents, sporting clubs and community groups in Casey, particularly in the north of the municipality, who will benefit from the improvements,” Cr Morland said.
“This facility is currently home to the Casey Little Athletics Club, one of the largest athletics clubs in Victoria, which will soon have some of the best facilities available to them.”
