Day of national pride

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THE Casey community will once again be able to display its national pride at a number of events on Australia Day next week.
The City of Casey is supporting four free events on Monday, held in Berwick, Hampton Park, Cranbourne East and Tooradin.
A range of activities including flag-raising ceremonies, children’s entertainment, multicultural performances and sausage sizzles will be occurring in the municipality throughout the day.
“Australia Day is the perfect opportunity to get together with family and friends and celebrate what’s great about this country and being Australian,” Casey Mayor Mick Morland said.
“More specifically, the local events celebrate the great people and places that make Casey a wonderful and diverse municipality to live, work and play.
“You might like to head along to Hampton Park for an Aussie breakfast and to watch multicultural entertainment or to the beautiful Pioneers Park in Berwick to enjoy musical performances, whip-cracking, vintage machinery and wood chopping displays.
“Or why not start your day in Cranbourne at the Passport to Casey’s Cultural Heritage Showcase, before finishing your night under the stars at the open air sunset cinema in Tooradin.
For Australia Day in Berwick, the Rotary Club will be holding its renowned festival at Pioneers Park from 10am to 3pm.
Across the way, the Hampton Park Progress Association will hold an Aussie breakfast from 9am to 12pm at Arthur Wren Hall.
In Cranbourne a traditional Australian sausage sizzle will take place at the Balla Balla Community Centre from 11am to 4pm.
While in Tooradin the Lions Club of Balla Balla will host live entertainment at the open air sunset cinema from 5pm to 11pm.
