Sad stigma

Such is the impact of suicide on the whole of our society that even “vandals” seem to get in on it (Message Out, News, 22 January).
It’s sad but so true and painful that so many people choose this path, from school kids to returned soldiers and everything in between.
There’s been a lot of progress made in the field of mental health in the last few years, with many politicians and other high profile people coming out and supporting this worthy cause.
But, unfortunately, some barriers still exist.
Bullying or ridiculing, lack of awareness or acceptance, not speaking out for fear of losing one’s job are still issues that need to be addressed.
The stigma attached to mental health seems hard to shake off.
