THREE DDCA champions added another accolade to their summer with a representative win over the country rivals.
Dylan Quirk captained the Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Union (VMCU) representative team against the Victoria Country Cricket League (VCCL) under-21s on Sunday with the VMCU edging ahead in the final overs.
Alongside Hallam Kalora Park duo Jagveer Hayer and Jordan Hammond, Quirk led the VMCU onto the field to start proceedings after winning the toss and sending Victoria Country in to bat.
After opening the bowling with Lucas Wilson, Hammond opened his account with a sensational run out from the ropes before adding a second run out later in the innings to reduce the VCCL to 4/80.
Hayer would spin through the defences to push the VCCL further into crisis at 5/98 before a rescue act took the VCCL to 190 all out.
The final wicket was a run out… a fantastic direct hit once again snared by Hammond to finish with three run outs for a remarkable contribution from the field.
Captain Quirk would arrive at the crease at 2/28, combining with Diamond Valley’s Natahn Chrimes (65) to add 50 for the partnership before he was run out attempting a quick single.
Chrimes succumbed after his match-saving half-ton at 5/141, leaving it up to the tail to wag to find the remaining 50.
Once again, Hammond proved the difference – this time with the bat as he emulated his efforts from the VMCU final against Diamond Valley CA last week.
Alongside spinner Ryan Eley, Hammond ran the winning singles to claim the gutsy fight back.
