Speed humps badly needed

CASEY Councillor Sam Aziz has called for the installation of speed humps in a hazardous street that runs through the Berwick Springs estate.
Council last week carried Cr Aziz’s matter of urgent business which requested an investigation into the installation of traffic calming measures in The Boulevard in Narre Warren South.
Cr Aziz said speed bumps were the priority measure at this point in time.
“I’ve received several complaints about speeding cars in that street; there have been a lot of accidents with cars ending up in people’s front yards,” he said.
“We’ll be pursuing action very vigorously about introducing traffic measures on The Boulevard.
“I recall dealing with this matter during my first term on council; we’ve just got to get on with the matter,” he said.
A report on Cr Aziz’s matter of urgent business, which was seconded by Cr Rafal Kaplon, is expected to come back to council by end February.
“The next step is working on the whole traffic management strategy for the entire Berwick Springs estate,” Cr Aziz said.
“Some people don’t want speed humps in their street and are concerned with it affecting the aesthetic of the area.
“We’ve already had several meetings to develop strategies on how to achieve the twin objectives of calming traffic and not affecting the amenity.”
