FOUNTAIN Gate Secondary College has congratulated last year’s high achievers while welcoming the school’s future.
Last Friday Fountain Gate Secondary held its annual Leadership and High Achievers’ Assembly where young leaders from Years 7 to 12, house captains and school captains were all officially announced.
The event also saw Year 11 student Jasmine Gonzalez recognised for winning the Australia Day Study Award, Year 10 student Hayley Hickey recognised for winning the Spirit of Anzac Prize, and 2014 graduate Hayden Reid recognised for being a VCAA Top Arts recipient.
Hayden’s twin brother, Craig, was also officially congratulated as the 2014 Dux of the school, while all of Year 12 high achievers from last year were also recognised.
Craig achieved a 99.25 ATAR score.
“I’m pretty happy, I suppose I did have high expectations, especially after Year 11 because I achieved a 50 in further and 43 in biology,” Craig said.
“I wanted to do just as well in Year 12.
“All my teachers were stoked with individual subjects and overall score.”
Asked by teachers to help current students with tips for Year 12, Craig has already returned to Fountain Gate Secondary to impart vital lessons to this year’s VCE students.
“I’ve been back and had a chance to speak with our principal (Vicki Walters) and a few of the teachers,” Craig said.
“And I’ve already spoken to this year’s English class; my teacher wanted me to do that. I’ve been through it all.
“English wasn’t my strongest subject, but I went better than I expected.”
Craig will this year start a science degree at Melbourne University, with a career in engineering very much on his mind.
