A search for WWI artefacts

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A WELL-RESPECTED group of Casey artists is looking for community help as it prepares for its special Anzac centenary exhibition later this year.
Provenance Artists Inc, a not-for-profit group of local artists, was awarded the $22,605 grant in February to help put together its Holt Anzac Centenary Fine Art Exhibition to be held in July.
Passionate artist Calvin Bell has now called on residents from the Holt electorate to lend any artefacts to the group that they may have of WWI, to be used as inspiration for paintings or even displayed at the exhibition.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne helped push for the federal grant, with two others also approved for local organisations, including $3420 for the Cranbourne Combined Patchworkers, and $814 for the Saffron Grove Retirement Village in Hallam.
The grant will see 30 artists given the ability to paint a range of Anzac pieces for the exhibition, of which five will be student artists, five will be hobby artists, 10 will be emerging artists and 10 will be established Provenance artists.
The Holt Anzac Centenary Fine Art Exhibition will take place from 4 to 5 July at the Narre Warren Mechanics Institute Hall in Webb Street.
Residents with WWI photos are encouraged to contact Provenance Artists secretary Rhonda Rawson on 9707 4286, or at randrrawson@bigpond.com.
