MAJOR league dreams for Adam Silva have been dashed for the moment, with Major League Baseball powerhouse New York Yankees releasing the young slugger.
Silva, 21, from Narre Warren, had been an early signing and youth prospect for the Yankees when the hitter signed a seven-year deal back in 2010.
Injury curtailed any chance for Silva to make it up through the minor league ranks and towards an MLB debut.
He was informed of the Yankees decision earlier this month and wrote in a Facebook post that he relished his time with the team and being part of the MLB playing fraternity.
“I am saddened to inform you all, friends and family, that my professional career with the New York Yankees has come to an end,” Silva’s post said.
“After almost five years with the organisation, I have been released as a player.
“My time with the Yankees has been nothing short of a dream, something I will carry with me for the rest of life.”
Silva was adamant that this was just the beginning of his baseball journey and not the final chapter in his MLB/ABL career.
“This all being said, this is not the end,” Silva said.
“I will succeed and I will be the best at what I do.
“Whether that is with another opportunity in baseball or a career move outside of the sport… Big things to come!”
His off-seasons have been much more impressive though, as he converted from the Melbourne Aces to the Canberra Calvalry for the Australian Baseball League’s 2014-15 season, where he featured in 35 matches made had a batting average of .211.
