NARRE Warren police have charged a man who allegedly smashed another person’s car with a hammer earlier this month in a vicious act of road rage on the Monash Freeway.
The 23-year-old man was arrested around 4am on Wednesday 29 April after police executed a warrant at a McCormicks Road property in Carrum Downs.
The man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, the possession of cannabis, criminal damage, and other traffic-related offences.
The man had been arrested earlier this month but released pending further inquiries.
It’s alleged the man, who was driving a silver Toyota Rukus at the time, smashed a Lexus with a hammer after tailgating the car and driving erratically outbound on the freeway in Endeavour Hills, near Heatherton Road, around 3.15pm on Thursday 23 April.
It’s alleged the man drove in front of the Lexus and forced it to stop on the freeway before attacking it with a hammer.
The male driver of the Lexus was not injured during the incident.
It is understood the offender got back into his car after the incident and continued driving onto the South Gippsland Highway and onto the Westernport Highway where he was intercepted by police.
The man was subsequently arrested at the scene but released a short time later.
He has now been bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 30 June.
