Sustainable cityscape

CASEY is among the state’s most sustainable cities.
The municipality is among four finalists for this year’s Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (KABV) Sustainable City of the Year award.
Sustainability Victoria CEO Stan Krpan said the finalists had, through diverse projects and quality initiatives, demonstrated their commitment to maintaining a sustainable environment.
In other Casey finalists, Hallam Senior College is vying for the Active Schools award for an LED lights project.
The City of Casey is also up for the Clean Beach/Waterways award for its Water Sensitive Urban Design Maintenance.
The council’s Autumn Place Regeneration Project and Casey Environmental and Heritage Grants are both finalists in the Community Government Partnerships award.
City of Casey’s sport and leisure department’s Old Cheese Factory 150 year Anniversary Celebration will vie for the Cultural Heritage title
The council worked with residents, community groups and service providers on an LED bulk street lighting project that’s a finalist for the Environmental Sustainability award alongside its Casey Stormwater Harvesting project.
City of Casey’s waste and recycling department is a finalist for the Litter Prevention category for its Pro-active Litter Prevention in Casey program.
Four of the five finalists for the Protection of the Environment category are from Casey.
Casey council has its environment department’s Urban Fringe Weed Management in Casey project and the Casey sport and leisure department’s Grey-headed Flying Fox Community Education at Myuna Farm.
Environmental volunteers, Landcare and Friends Groups are finalists for Growing a Green Web and Friends of Frog Hollow Reserve earned a spot for its Frog Hollow Reserve Enhancement.
The council’s waste and recycling department has two projects in the running for the Resource Recovery and Waste Management award – Composting in Casey and Casey Loves Cloth Nappies.
Winners will be announced at the 2015 KABV Sustainable Cities Awards ceremony at The Arts Centre in Melbourne on Friday 12 June.
