A BERWICK woman has pleaded for the return of her late-mother’s cherished patio chairs after they were stolen from her front porch earlier this month.
Kay Weaver has called on whoever stole the two chairs from her Jamieson Way property just before 3.30am on Friday 15 May to return them after her mother bought them as a gift before she passed away.
Ms Weaver didn’t realise the chairs were missing until she returned home from work on the Friday afternoon and thought they had just been moved by her children before she suspected foul play.
Security cameras installed at the premises reveal a man, aided by an accomplice, sneak right up to the front door of the property at 3.17am while Ms Weaver and her family were asleep inside and took the patio chairs from the porch.
Police are now investigating the incident.
“I asked my son to have a look at the CCTV footage, and by this time it was pretty late on the Saturday.
“He checked his feed and we had footage of them taking the chairs,” she said.
“There was footage of one guy taking them, but when we looked through the footage there was another guy standing near the letterbox.”
Ms Weaver said the chairs held a special place in her heart because her late-mother bought them for her, and Kay now urged the thieves to return them.
“Who would want them? They’re not worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars – they had more sentimental value to me than anything,” she said.
The News was alerted to the stolen chairs after Ms Weaver’s niece, Laura, posted about the theft on Facebook.
“Now looking at the photos the person looks quite young and we understand people make stupid mistakes we just want the chairs back and hopefully an apology!” Laura wrote.
