ROTARIANS will keep the Berwick and District Benevolent Society alive.
City of Casey Mayor Mick Morland recognised the society’s work over its 56-year history with a morning tea on Monday 1 June.
He presented certificates of appreciation to outgoing committee members including Bert Rae, whose parents formed the society.
Due to their advancing years, the committee members were unable to continue distributing food and other goods to disadvantaged members of the Berwick community.
The Rotary Club of Berwick has agreed to continue the society’s good work under its auspices and to continue using the Berwick and District Benevolent Society name.
Casey North Information and Support Services (CISS) manager Sue Magee said the society had been instrumental in forming the CISS and had contributed more than $250,000 over the years to support the organisation.
She said it was a sad occasion to see the existing members retire but she looked forward to working with the Rotary Club of Berwick to ensure the ongoing provision of service to the community.
