Freeway closed for weekend works

THE Monash freeway will be closed overnight on Saturday 13 June and Saturday 20 June.
The freeway will be closed in both directions between Burke Road and Chadstone for installation of overhead electronic speed and lane use signs.
On Saturday 13 June the freeway will be closed between Burke Road and Warrigal Road in both directions. The Toorak Road inbound exit and outbound entry will also be closed.
On Saturday 20 June the freeway will be closed between from Burke Road to Huntingdale Road in both directions. The Toorak Road inbound exit will also be closed.
The Monash Freeway will close at 10pm inbound and 1am outbound, however there will be lane closures and speed reductions in place earlier to help manage traffic safely. Both directions of the Monash Freeway will re-open at 7am.
VicRoads Road Operations director Keith Weegberg urged road users to plan ahead.
“Over the next two Saturday nights the Monash Freeway will be closed in both directions so we can safely install gantries above the freeway,” Mr Weegberg said.
“Detours will be in place, however delays of up to 30 minutes are possible so motorists should allow extra travel time or avoid the area if possible. We encourage people to plan ahead using the VicTraffic app or our website.
“The installation of these gantries is an important step to upgrade the M1 to a ‘managed motorway’ system where electronic overhead signs advise drivers if a lane is open or closed and allow speed limits to be adjusted to suit traffic conditions.
“These works are weather dependent and we thank the community for their patience as we undertake this important project, which will provide road users with a much safer and consistent journey.”
Please be aware that there may be other closures on the road network that may affect your journey.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead by checking VicTraffic at http://traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au/
