Neil’s view from the balcony

THE Berwick Mechanics Institute and Free Library returned to its roots recently with a “talk from the balcony” event.
On Wednesday 27 May, well-known Berwick resident and former mayor and state member of parliament Neil Lucas, entertained more than 50 people as he shared reflections and anecdotes from his early years living and working in the town.
City of Casey Mayor Mick Morland also took a stroll down memory lane.
President of the Berwick Mechanics Institute and Free Library Corinne Brewis said similar events were planned for the future.
“Lectures and talks to impart useful knowledge were popular events as Mechanics Institutes spread across Australia in the 19th century,” she said.
