Watch out for burglars

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A NEW Neighbourhood Watch branch in Hampton Park is one step closer to becoming a reality, after a community summit was held last month.
Neighbourhood Watch Casey volunteers and police officers met with Casey councillors Damien Rosario and Wayne Smith at the Arthur Wren Hall to discuss the viability of setting up the sub-branch to help tackle crime in the River Gum ward.
It has been seven years since Neighbourhood Watch was last active in Hampton Park.
Another meeting will be organised soon to allow more residents the opportunity to give their feedback on the idea.
“Our aim is to set up two subcommittee groups in each ward to help work with police, council and the community to spread the word on crime prevention and safety,” NHW Casey secretary Jennifer Baird said.
“In discussions with Cr Rosario, Casey Neighbourhood Watch saw an opportunity to return to Hampton Park and work with the local established community groups and businesses to promote safety and crime prevention in our community.“
At the meeting, Leading Senior Constable Brett Owen, Crime Prevention Officer Casey Police Service Area, spoke of the work of police and the public in crime prevention.
Cr Damien Rosario echoed Leading Sen Const Owen’s comments.
“We are all working towards combating anti-social behaviours such as graffiti, theft and violence, and with the experience of this group behind us, our chances for success increase,” he said.
If residents are interested in having input, touch base with Jen Baird on 9799 3326, or via the Hampton Park Community Facebook page.
