Council chamber pays respects in silence

Axl Abson with the love of his life, Tiffany Purvis.

CASEY councillors held a minute’s silence at their meeting on Tuesday night to remember Axl Abson, a young footballer for the Doveton Eagles who died suddenly on 6 June.
Axl was only 16 when he suffered a burst appendix, which tragically claimed his life.
Four Oaks councillor Rosalie Crestani raised the minute’s silence during the meeting.
Axl’s death has touched a range of communities right across the south east, from Phillip Island to Dandenong.
He adored his girlfriend Tiffany, the love of his life.
The two had planned a future together, and when he stayed at the Purvis family home over Christmas he was treated as one of their own.
Axl loved to play the bass guitar and even had his own band, Crimson Gates.
He wanted to be an AFL footballer for Carlton, or even go on to become a commentator.
Last Thursday, Tiffany and a huge number of Axl’s friends converged on one of their favourite hangouts, Dory’s fish and chip shop in Wonthaggi, to remember him.
Cr Crestani told the council chamber on Tuesday that Axl’s family and friends were looking to raise money to help with the funeral costs.
