FOUNTAIN Gate Tennis Club hosted what would become an unforgettable weekend in the club’s history this month.
After weeks of preparation for the second Annual Hotshots Club Championships, all players trained even harder in the days leading up to the event.
The players were entered into a round robin format so they would be placed in matches to equal their level of skill and competiveness.
Families of the players watched in admiration as their children played with great sportsmanship during the 13-14 June event.
Once the group stages of the championships were completed, the semi-finals arrived in both the green and orange ball competitions.
In a tough battle Blake Henderson and Adam Mina powered past their opponents Gaby Djumic and Jayden Hoang.
Finally, Adam charged ahead to be crowned the 2015 Orange Ball Club Champion, with Blake showing bravery by saving several match points.
Next up was the Green ball competition.
Cristopher and Timothy Singh found a way to succeed youngsters Rayven Henderson and Elena Harris who both showed promising potential.
The final was to be played the following day in which Timothy Singh overcame a worrying fall on his knee, to win 6-5.
All players showed great strength and determination during the finals.
As day two of the competition approached the singles didn’t disappoint.
Head coach Peter Jedrys stated that the skills he was witnessing were, “some of the best tennis I have seen from my players.”
With the final of the graded singles in full swing, Angus Lucey and Lachlan Henry battled it out bravely before Lachlan made a triumphant comeback from 2- 5 to win the game.
The junior boys’ semi-finals were determined after some strenuous action from all involved.
Soham Waingade and Gukuran Singh competed at a high level to overpower David Buela and Dylan Wijayakoon.
Soham fought persistently but in the end Gukuran defeated Soham by winning 6-3.
With the enormous success of the weekend, coach Peter Jedrys pronounced that he would “love to thank the kids”.
“My job is very satisfying and I’m proud of all the participants through this truly fantastic event,” he said.
