City take the Victory

NPL1 EAST – ROUND 18

SCALPING the high-flying Melbourne Victory has left Dandenong City well placed in NPL1 East following a 5-0 demolition.
Sending shockwaves through the NPL1 East competition, City ensured that Victory would not live up to its moniker on Saturday following the rampaging forward effort. Completing one of the upsets of the season, all of Dandenong City’s usual suspects got in among the scoring, but breaking the deadlock took time.
Finally after 36 minutes of near misses, almost chances and some solid defending from both sides, Keegan Ziada smashed through the Victory line and from there the floodgates were breached time and time again.
Sean Seavill added another one on each side of the half and it only got worse for Victory as Shaun Filipovic and Andy Jerez joined the party.
The win pushes the Endeavour Hills-based side to sixth on the ladder and City’s battles with the A-League feeder sides continues this weekend as it faces Melbourne City.
WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE AND STATE LEAGUES
EVERY point counts for Casey Comets’ WPL side to try and stave off relegation, as it took a 0-0 draw with Senior NTC. The Comets’ women couldn’t push past the rising stars, but would have been buoyed by its defensive efforts to maintain a clean sheet. Casey sits in last place with two points, trying to chase down South Yarra (3) and Caulfield Cobras (9) ahead of them with eight rounds left in the WPL season. The Comets host Sandringham SC on Friday night.
It was the same score line for the Comets’ men in SL1SE as a Liam Ryan goal wasn’t enough to break the 1-1 deadlock with FC Clifton Hill. The Comets sit ninth just outside the relegation area.
Second place in Men’s State League 2 South East is now Berwick City’s outright after claiming a 2-1 win in the local derby against Doveton SC. In a heated contest, City emerged triumphant after Shane Savanah and Dominic Branca pushed through the Doves’ defence. Phoenix Lawton’s goal for Doveton SC kept things interested heading into the final minutes, but the Doves couldn’t rally another major. The loss pushes Doveton SC down to seventh in SL2SE. The Men’s state leagues have a bye this weekend.
Berwick City women continued the successful campaigning down at Jack Thomas Reserve with the ladder-leaders in WSL2SE brushing past Mooroolbark SC 4-0 as Ellie Priest notched a hat-trick and Emily Rizkallah finished the job with her 11th goal of the season.
