Truckload of trouble

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

A TRUCK tyre blow-out on the Monash Freeway this morning left traffic backed up inbound between the Heatherton Road and Narre Warren exits.
The Jaws Earthworx truck was driving outbound at 10.30am when its front right tyre blew.
VicRoads incident response member Paul Edwards said the truck was driving in the middle lane when it happened.
“We received the call at 11am – it’s very lucky no-one was hit.
“Once the tyre went the truck pulled right, crossing one lane and hitting the wire fence, damaging 38 wire posts,” Mr Edwards said.
First Constable Matt Jukes from the Casey Highway Patrol team said the wire posts did their job perfectly.
“The wires got caught under the truck, which is what they’re supposed to do – they did a good job,” Mr Jukes said.
Four lanes were blocked inbound to remove the truck from the median strip at 12.10pm, causing delays.
Leading Sen Constable Kylie Holmes from the Casey Highway Patrol team said it could have been much worse.
“If the truck had hit oncoming traffic it could have been a fatal accident – but luckily no-one else was hit or touched,” Ms Holmes said.
