Beattie’s bit for cervical cancer

EIGHTEEN months ago, Delia Beattie received some devastating news – she was diagnosed with cervical cancer.
“I was 34 and healthy. Obviously, it was a huge shock and something that you could never prepare for,” she said.
Now 35-year-old Delia and friend Jenny Brown are preparing themselves for a challenge of a different kind.
The pair will take to the hills of Bhutan later this year to raise money to vaccinate underprivileged young women against cervical cancer.
After major surgery, treatment and an extensive recovery period, Delia said the trek presented the perfect opportunity to do something for the community.
“This all started when I was given the all-clear in April, and I just thought I really need to do something to show my appreciation for everything that everyone did for me,” she said.
Every $21 raised will provide one young woman with the three necessary vaccinations against cervical cancer.
