A CAR thief has narrowly escaped being caught after a witness spotted him acting suspiciously in the middle of a Narre Warren street.
The witness was arriving home to his Warrenwood Place property just after midday on Thursday 6 August when he spotted a suspicious man seated in a car in the middle of the road.
When he approached the car, the driver told him the car wouldn’t start.
Thinking nothing of it, the witness left the man, who soon drove off in the car.
The witness then recognised the car belonged to his neighbour across the road and had been stolen from his home.
It’s believed the offender had broken into the neighbour’s home through a kitchen door, and found car keys left out on the bench.
