HOMELESS people in Casey will sleep a little easier thanks to Berwick and District Benevolent Society.
The Rotary Club of Berwick-managed charity purchased several Backpack Beds and on Friday 14 August donated them to Casey North Community Information and Support Services (CISS) to distribute to homeless people.
Swags for the Homeless developed the beds to improve dignity, health, sleep, warmth, comfort and safety to people sleeping rough until they can find shelter.
Rotary Club of Berwick secretary Sam McCurdy said about 41,000 Australians would sleep on the street under bridges and worse.
“In the Berwick area, approximately 10 homeless people are sleeping outside on a regular basis,” he said.
Cranbourne North CISS executive officer Susan Magee said the donated beds would increase the organisation’s ability to respond to the community’s needs.
She said there was an increasing demand for the support and that the Backpack Beds would be put to immediate use.
