Dog owner tracked down after border collie attack

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

A RECENT attack on ‘Betty’ the border collie in Hampton Park made news headlines on Sunday 9 August and had Facebook in a search frenzy for the owner of the aggressor.
Since the incident, the City of Casey announced in a Facebook post that they have ‘established contact’ with the owner of the dog, which attacked Betty, who reportedly fled the scene.
The post read: “We can confirm council has established contact with that person and he is co-operating with council’s investigations.
Council takes the well-being of Casey’s animals seriously and assures residents we are pursuing the matter in-line with the Domestic Animals Act.”
City of Casey’s Caroline Bell advised Star News that the owners of both dogs involved in the incident are currently working co-operatively with the council as it investigates the attack.
Facebook comments displayed a divided opinion on the council’s actions.
Mel Gera commented on the post saying: “Yep just like they “did” when my parents’ dog was attacked nothing ever happened that dog still freely walks the streets.”
Another Casey resident commented: “Just like when my neighbour’s dogs mauled our cat and our other neighbour’s rabbits. Still happily letting them dig under my fence to my 2 year old to be told she shouldn’t be outside unsupervised.” However, there was some support for the council’s update and investigation, Addi Cain said: “Very proactive council. Well done.”
